Queen of the Derp

gouache / digital, 6x8

I bought some Winsor&Newton designer's gouache today and I've never been taught how to use the medium, so I'm going to experiment with them for a while. We'll see how it goes.

This is my doofy cat, Schmooj, who is the Derp Queen!

Sketched this in class last friday, then I tried to color it digitally earlier. Needless to say it didn't work out. I'm not very good at digital painting.

Phooey.

the Empress

acrylic gouache / digital, 5x7

This is part of a project I'm working on to expand my skills in new media and creativity. I've never worked with acrylic gouache before doing this one, and I'm really enjoying it so I think I'll work with it some more to see more of what it's capable of.

For those who are unfamiliar with acrylic gouache: it's made by Holbein and, unlike traditional gouache, the vehicle is acrylic polymer rather than gum arabic - which means that it acts more like acrylic than watercolor, but it dries matte like gouache. It really is neat.
